Case Studies
Amy Cattrell, 17 from Lilybank (Parkhead)
I have attended the Urban Fox Programme for several years now and I have achieved so much by coming along to the youth clubs, drop-ins and the football sessions that the Urban Fox Programme delivers.
I have gained lots of new experiences such as going to residentials and doing a number of different sports such as kayaking, skiing, canoeing, mountain biking and gorge walking.
I have also been given the chance to gain certificates and qualifications in a variety of sporting activities such as kayaking, paddle power, mountain biking and skiing.
I have been given a number of great opportunities such as being part of a group doing The Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze), and completing my Bronze, Silver and Gold awards and working on my Platinum Youth Achievement awards.
Throughout my Trainee programme, I have been involved in planning and leading a summer residential in Aviemore and a trip to Braehead Arena with the healthy fox clubs to see Disney Live.
I have also been involved in a Child Protection Audit Project through the NHS.
I have been put through a number of different training courses throughout my time in the Urban Fox Programme, including junior youth work training, board meeting training, raising the issue of smoking training and Glasgow Young Sports leader training.
The best opportunity that I have been given is to be part of the Urban Fox Programmes team. This has been made possible though a piece of partnership work with Clyde Gateway and Action for Children scheme.
David Stewart, 19, from Dalmarnock
I am currently one of the elected MYSP For the Shettleston constituencies.
Before receiving this opportunity with the Urban Fox Programme, I completed my SVQ Community Development at John Wheatley College with another community-based project. I have been involved in planning, organising and implementing numerous projects, such as an ice hockey trip, a pantomime, and an international exchange to Poland.
Throughout my year’s contract, I am being supported to complete my National Certificate (NC) in Working with Communities, Glasgow Young Sports Leader Platinum Youth Achievement Award and participate in the Representing Young People’s Interest group.
All of this will see me naturally progress and develop as an individual.
John Kennedy, 17, from Bridgeton
I am currently one of the elected MYSP for the Shettleston constituencies.
Through the Urban Fox programme I have been supported to do the NC Working with Communities, Glasgow Young Sports Leader Award, a Platinum Youth Achievement award and attend/host an international exchange to Poland, all which has benefited me greatly in my personal development.
I have also gained essential practical experiences with the programme such as organising a summer residential for young people doing mountain biking and river tubing in Aviemore.
I organised a Christmas Extravaganza for the Parkhead community of Lilybank, and I set up an ice hockey trip.
This programme has made me more confident and competent by improving my self-esteem and helped me be more active when trying to complete any goal I wish to achieve.

eing involved has given me the opportunity to gain many experiences and certificated training such as kayaking 1 star, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Bronze and Silver youth achievement. My biggest achievement is my Professional Development Award in Youth Work.
Since being appointed as trainee, I have been involved in many programmes such as organising two trips to the Christmas pantomime and to see the Braehead Clan ice hockey team. These two challenges will assist me in progressing and gaining my gold youth achievement award.
